Hooray!

2021 ONLINE Spring Training are Here!!

Please read until the end, OK?

We miss the opportunity being together, in a space working...

But, what we can do is still PLAY and be in CONNECTION with each other, all from home, here's why:

ONLINE Training Jams is our attempt to capture the essence of experimental play that occurs in the studio. New(to)Town Collective’s intention is to engage beyond and through the screens to catalyze a conscious re-connection to our bodies and psyches.

Training Jams are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and experimental workshops produced by N(t)TC. They are opportunities to cross-pollinate training, practices, and ideas between artists of various disciplines as well as non-artists. We like to think of Training Jams as experimental art 'labs' where you can explore and experiment with your own curiosities free of pressures of having to necessarily create 'product'.

It's all about the process!

Regardless of your experience level, there is always room to hone your craft. At Training Jams we offer space for exploration, curiosity, and to expand your artistic community, now online.

Schedule for Online Classes (all Sundays times are PST/PDT):

March 28th @ 2-4 pm - Collision Collaboration: Anjela Magpantay

Space is Limited to 25. We will be trying the "first come first serve" strategy this round. So please sign up early :). Registration will open a week before each class. Please click the registration buttons below to sign up for your desired sessions!

Requested prep for those participating:

• A computer screen with a webcam or webcam capabilities;

• A space where you are comfortable in and have some room to move in order to do the work (we acknowledge that due to shared spaces during quarantine, you may need to adjust your participation accordingly. Please feel free to participate when you need to.); It is very relaxing and casual (aka stress free) doing this from our own spaces. Enjoy!

• To have some "front lighting" (ie could be a desk lamp or placing yourself in front of a window with natural lighting; love to see your face!)

All donations we normally gather for our Training Jams we ask participants to direct their donation (suggested $10-$20 per TJ) one of these efforts ( *
DTES COVID-19 Relief Fund,  *Unist'ot'en Legal Fund, *Hogan Alley Society Campaign)  we are supporting. If you have difficulty donating to a specific fund, let us know and we'll help you out.

The next two March 2021 TJs (with June and Anjela) we ask you to directly donate to Elimin8hate.org in solidarity with Asian communities to fight against anti-Asian racism and violence.

Live Screen Theatre with Davey Calderon

All the world's a stage and we are all actors, is the most resonant statement right now for artists who are using online and digital media to connect with audiences during the pandemic. But are we making the best use of our new stages, in live and intimate ways?

Join Davey in this workshop to play and experiment with Zoom as a launching point for the potential digital media can bring to live performance online. We'll be working with devising theatre techniques and Zoom in this workshop.

This class is open to all participants of any skill level.

Laughing with and @ Yourself with Avyen von Waldenburg

Meet, play, and co-create with someone new. In this Online Training Jam we will be using Clown techniques of seeing yourself as a character or mask. Exploring laughter and listening, your Player self will have an opportunity to tap into the Clown world in observing yourself through a delightfully different viewpoint.

It’s a great opportunity to play with another Human being that you might have never met before. What? Wow! Come laugh together with some other fools.

Sunday March 14th 2-4pm pst.

Training Jam 3: "Playing Yourselves"
with June Fukumura

MARCH 21st 2-4pm PST - OVER Thank You

Playing Yourselves with June Fukumura

In this workshop we will invite our many "selves" or "masks" to reveal themselves to us by tapping into our psychic circus! Through structured improvisations, bio-kinetic release, physical extensions of the body, and partner explorations we will allow characters to emerge from our subconscious and into the arena of play. We will follow our curiosities to find what lies just beneath the surface and let our clowns test drive the masks we discover in the workshop.

"If you can't laugh at yourself, you're missing the biggest joke." - David MacMurray Smith

This workshop is for individuals of all skill levels, artistic discipline, and background. Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in.

Collision Collaboration with Anjela Magpantay

" I am interested in the actor because he is a fellow human being...which means my encounter with a person other than myself, the feeling, the contact, the sense of mutual comprehension created by the fact that we are both opening ourselves to another human being, that we are trying to understand him and thus overcome our solitude."

- Jerzy Grotowski, theater director.

How do you get through screen fatigue and find genuine connection while creating a piece of live performance? In this Training Jam we will explore physical expressions of conflict and connection using the Laban Efforts to discover these concepts. In these times of isolation, we will magnify the experience of what it means to connect again. Participants will 'collide' as they create small pieces of performances together.
